We, at Sport Oregon, want to inform everyone that we have made the decision to place the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon on hiatus for 2023. While we pause the event this year for a strategic reset, we still encourage everyone to keep running, and to keep supporting our area vineyards and small towns!

Welcome to Independence, Oregon

Just 15 minutes south of Salem, Independence is a city rooted in history, nature, and a vibrant community spirit.

Fun fact: The city is named after Independence, Missouri where many wagon trains began their westward journey on the Oregon Trail!

Nestled along the west bank of the beautiful Willamette River, Independence provides countless opportunities for outdoor adventure coupled with a welcoming small-town feel. Take a stroll down Main street, pop into a locally-owned eatery or shop, sip world-renowned Willamette Valley wines, and take in all that this Oregon gem has to offer!

Managed by the non-profit Sport Oregon, the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon has a profoundly positive impact on Oregon wine country. With almost half of all runners coming from out-of-state, the race produces substantial economic benefit throughout the region, along with an innovative partnership with local charities that provides hundreds of race volunteers and generates critical financial support for important youth and family programs in the community.

Whether the 2022 race marks your first visit to Independence or you’re a regular in Polk County, we can’t wait for you to experience all of the fun that the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon events have to offer. Run and raise a glass with us on September 4, 2022!

2019 RACE RECAP:

I sometimes forget how lucky I am to live in Oregon… around mile 9 there was a rooster crowing… the sweeping vision of the vineyards, not to mention the blood red sun casting some gorgeous shade over the fields beat the typical city views for a change.

With a gorgeous course, a weekend of activities and wine tasting at the finish line, I think I’d say this run is a ‘must do’ for anyone looking for a unique half marathon.

This course is not only fun but beautiful and ends better than any other I have seen. I love this race and can’t wait to continue running it for years to come!
