Please allow us to introduce ourselves! We are the non-profit Sport Oregon (formerly the Oregon Sports Authority) – the new owner/operator of the fabulous, scenic and festive Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon, presented by Subaru. We are delighted to announce that the race will celebrate its 10th Anniversary this year on Sunday, September 1 – and you are cordially invited to join us! Please check out our entirely new website, new look, and our lower entry fee – and then sign up for the half marathon, 2-person relay or team option.
For those of you who don’t yet know us, we’re excited to introduce ourselves and share more information about our plans for the race this year. But know this: we are absolutely committed to providing a first-class race experience, from sign-up to teardown – for runners from around the world and runners from around the block. We will work tirelessly to make the race special, memorable and meaningful – not just for you, but for all of your friends and family who greet you at the finish.
So, what exactly do we have planned for this year’s race?
A lot! We’ll have several exciting announcements to share with you in the days ahead, including plans for a special 10th Anniversary Celebration. We are committed to fully engaging with the local running community and will conduct extensive outreach to make sure runners of all economic capability have the chance to participate in the race. We are also thrilled to be working closely again with Destination Races Founder Matt Dockstader, who will serve as Race Director, and with Ken Wright Cellars and Yamhill Carlton Together Cares, to put on a fabulous post-race Wine & Music Festival at the finish.
Who is the Oregon Sports Authority?
We are a non-profit sports commission with more than 25 years of experience in driving economic growth and enhancing Oregon’s quality of life through sport. We accomplish this by attracting and supporting sporting events that generate positive tourism impact, like last weekend’s NCAA Women’s Basketball Regional, and by conducting programs to encourage physical activity among Oregon’s underserved youth. We’re proud to have played a key role in creating and launching the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon in 2010, and have continued to actively support the event each year since then.
We’ve helped attract and conduct big-time events like Women’s World Cup Soccer, Davis Cup Tennis, the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and Dew Tour. And we’ve helped thousands of Oregon kids gain access to physical activity through programs like our TrackTown Youth League, and by helping establish a local presence for terrific organizations like Street Soccer USA and Playworks.
But, beyond all that – you should know a little more about who we really are. We’re runners! In fact, three of us have run the race the past two years, immediately after managing the parking lot at the start! One of us even “coached” two Yamhill Valley goats who were inspired to join the race last year.
As passionate as we are about running, we are equally committed to putting on events that are both exceptional and authentic – events that truly embrace and engage the local community. This is our perspective – and this is the commitment that we bring to the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon. We invite you, and all your friends and family, to join us on September 1!
